1. Questions about the TextTank service
Q: Who can use TextTank? A: TextTank is great for businesses and organisations of any size who
send and receive text messages. It has been designed for complete ease of use and can be used by anyone whatever their knowledge in SMS or computing.
Q: If I don't use the incoming SMS features how else can I get replies?
A: When sending a message (on Step 2 of the send process) you can opt to not receive replies to your
TextTank Inbox and instead enter your own sender ID. This allows you to enter a number of your choosing, on which you could receive replies/calls - e.g. Your own mobile number. Up to 16 digits can be used. For further information on setting up incoming SMS visit our
Tutorial page.
Q: I don't want replies. What else can I do with the sender ID of my text messages?
A: When sending a message (on Step 2 of the send process) you can opt to not receive replies to your TextTank Inbox and instead enter your own sender ID. This allows you to, for example, input the name of your company or your own name. The recipient is unable to reply to the message when you set the sender ID to include letters and, unlike with a numeric sender ID, you are limited to 11 characters.
Q: How do I get the numbers I need to text out of my spreadsheet and into TextTank?
A: TextTank offers the facility to upload a list of numbers contained in either a CSV or an Excel file. The uploaded CSV or Excel file can also contain additional data allowing you to mail merge up to 6 items into your message. This can be done either on the first step of the send process or from the "Manage Contacts" page within your account. For more information on uploading files with numbers and mail merge data please view the
Tutorial page.
Q: I often send the same message. Is there somewhere I can store it so I don't have to write it out again?
A: If you are going to be consistently sending messages that are very similar in content then we suggest creating a template to allow quick and easy transmission of your SMS. To set up a template simply click the "Add New Template" button from within the "Contacts" page. Once created you can assign it on Step 2 of the message sending process. For more information on creating a template please visit the
Tutorial page.
Q: How long can I view my sent SMS history for?
A: Sent messages will appear in your account under the "Sent SMS" section for 60 days, after which they will be automatically deleted.
Be sure to export your data if you want to keep it.
Q: How long do messages stay in my Inbox for?
A: Messages received will appear in your account on the "Inbox" page for 60 days, after which they will be automatically deleted. Be sure
to export your data if you want to keep it.
Q: How far in advance can I schedule an SMS message?
A: Messages can be scheduled to be sent up to 60 days in advance.
Q: Is there an API that I can use to connect to TextTank from within my own software?
A: TextTank does not offer the ability to connect via an API; however our parent company,
CardBoardFish, does. HTTPSMS is simple, efficient, and includes a comprehensive set of features. Code examples are available in a number of programming languages for quick integration into your systems, as is a complete Protocol Specification describing, with examples, all of the features in detail.

2. Questions about cost and payment
2. Questions about cost and payment
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The cost to send a text message is only 3.9p to UK recipients and 5p to international recipients in over 200 countries. To view all countries and networks covered by
TextTank please view our
Pricing & Coverage page. Prices exclude VAT, which is currently charged at 17.5%. where appropriate.
Q: Are there any hidden charges?
A: There are no hidden charges and no setup fees. TextTank employs a pre-paid system where you top up your account with credit (via either Google Checkout, Pay Pal or directly with a credit card) and then the price of each SMS is subtracted from your live balance once it has been sent.
Q: Why is sending a text message with TextTank so cheap?
A: Because of the incredibly large amount of SMS that is sent through
TextTank (and its operator,
CardBoardFish) we have been able to make special agreements with UK and international mobile operators for low cost, high quality routing, allowing us to filter the savings down to you, our customers.
Q: Do I get charged for using the incoming SMS features?
A: Incoming SMS features are free. You must have made at least one payment before you can configure keywords for receiving incoming SMS.
Q: If I use the TextTank incoming SMS features, how much does the person texting me have to pay?
A: The person sending the text message to you via TextTank will pay their standard network rate for a UK mobile number. For those with UK mobiles that means the message will be included in their text bundle, if applicable, or charged at around 10 - 15p. TextTank does not levy any charge on the sender.
Q: What payment methods are accepted?
A: Your TextTank account allows you to buy credit to send SMS with a credit or debit card, PayPal account or Google Checkout account.
Q: What if I want to pay by cheque or bank transfer?
A: We regret that in order to offer the best level of service to our customers we have restricted payment methods to credit and debit cards, PayPal and Google Checkout.
Q: How long will it take for my payment to be processed?
A: Once you have paid there may be a short delay before your credit is added to your account to allow for transaction verification. Typically this may take up to a few minutes.
Q: How long does my credit last for?
A: Credit will be valid for up to 365 days after the user has deposited funds (from the date that payment was received). However TextTank may extend this period on a case-by-case basis at its sole discretion.
Q: What is your refund policy?
A: In the event of a price increase from TextTank or a loss of service or features to a
required destination, the user has the right to close their account and any unused positive
credit balance shall be refunded to user. TextTank shall retain any costs incurred as a result of making
payment to the user including any currency conversion charges and payment processor charges. Sales Tax or Value Added Tax shall be added to the total repayment amount if applicable.
Q: I need an invoice for my purchase, how do I get it?
A: An invoice is automatically generated once a payment has been made and processed. These invoices can be found in the "Billing" section of your account. To open an invoice simply click on the "Invoice Number" for the invoice you wish to view (you will need the free
Adobe Acrobat reader to view your invoices).
Q: I send a lot of text messages. Can I get a discount?
A: f you regularly send more than 50,000 SMS messages per month and would like to explore options for reducing your costs please contact
CardBoardFish.com.
Q: Why was I charged for sending a text message that did not deliver?
A: TextTank charges for all sent messages, including if your message was not delivered. If you identify a problem with delivery, please contact TextTank Support immediately from within your account and await further information.

A: If you already have an account with
TextTank, simply log into your account and visit the "Support" section (found on the left hand side navigation) where you can find help and submit any queries you might have to our support department who will be notified of your message immediately. If you don't yet have an account or are having trouble logging in/signing up please visit our
Contact page and submit your questions via the form provided.
Q: I know the number I texted is correct and switched on, why was my text not received?
A: If you are experiencing a delivery issue please use the "Support" section (found on the left hand side navigation of your online account) to submit details to us for investigation. Our support team will be notified of your message immediately.
Q: When I upload my spreadsheet to TextTank I get an error or the data displayed isn't what I expected. What did I do wrong?
A: Firstly, make sure the spreadsheet you're trying to upload is in one of the three supported formats (either CSV, XLS, or XLSX) and if prompted make sure the file is saved in UTF-8 format. If one particular file type still isn't working try saving as either one of the other two supported formats. When creating a new spreadsheet, some spreadsheet editors (such as Microsoft Office) automatically create multiple spreadsheets and attach them together (known as a workbook).
TextTank only allows for the uploading of one spreadsheet at a time so if the uploaded file you are trying to upload contains multiple spreadsheets you may receive an error upon upload, for this reason we suggest removing all sheets except the one that contains the data you wish to upload. For more information on uploading files please view the
Tutorial page.
